Stretto Architects transformed part of the Old Nursery building into a dedicated Wellbeing Hub for hospital staff. Once underused and almost forgotten, the space has been revitalised into a bright, welcoming retreat - a place for staff to pause, recharge, and connect.
The refurbishment provides a multifunctional breakout space, a private counselling POD, gender-neutral showers and toilets, storage, and lockers. The design embraces biophilic principles: bold botanical wall graphics, fresh colours, natural textures, and planting create an uplifting environment that promotes wellbeing, creativity, and calm.
Externally, a new raised landing, ramp, steps, and landscaping improve both accessibility and identity. The refreshed façade and entrance now create a sense of welcome, inviting staff into the Hub.
This modest yet meaningful project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform overlooked spaces into meaningful places that support the mental health and resilience of NHS staff.

“The Wellbeing Hub is a simple idea but one with real value, a place that gives back to NHS staff through design that feels supportive, uplifting, and human.”
