Stretto Architects were appointed to develop a scheme for the conversion of the existing 2 storey office block at 150 Aztec West to provide a hospital facility for a private client. The hospital will primarily facilitate plastic and aesthetic surgery, however the capacity for future alternative clinical uses may be considered as appropriate.
The general internal accommodation requirements are as follows:
Treatment and consulting rooms
Minor operations theatre/ treatment room
Main operating theatre
Overnight stay rooms with associated en-suite facilities
All associated clinical spaces, including clean and dirty utility, stores, staff base etc.
All associated patient spaces, including reception and waiting areas
New lift (sized to suit arrangement)
External building work will also be required to facilitate the change of building use:
New air handling unit and enclosure
External ductwork and associated replacement of glass window panels with louvre panels to suit new M+E design
New cycle shelter
New glazed entrance lobby
New EV charging points
Design studies and engineering analysis have been undertaken to develop a spatially coordinated design which integrates architectural, structural and services proposals. An outline specification for materials, fixtures and fittings has also been considered to give a more detailed view of the scheme and to allow for more accurate cost analysis.
The brief is to provide an operating theatre for major surgeries, along with the associated clinical support required and overnight stay for recovering patients. The clinic will also provide a dedicated treatment space for less invasive procedures and several rooms for consultation, examination, and other minor treatments.
The new hospital will be a standalone facility with no formal link with other healthcare facilities.
The facility aims to meet high standards of quality and safety as required by the independent care regulator CQC.
“The design delivers a state-of-the-art private healthcare facility in a former business park office building on a very tight budget and timescale”
Craig Bennett, Director, Stretto Architects
