The design for the new emergency base involved the demolition of outdated partitions, new construction, upgraded drainage, and full futureproofing of fire, security, electrical, and mechanical systems. The layout provides dedicated offices for each emergency team alongside shared meeting, training, and operations rooms, with circulation carefully refined through stakeholder workshops to ensure seamless movement.

Practical facilities include a clean and dirty sluice, ample kit storage, a reconfigured kitchen and breakout area, and a first-floor sleep room with 10 stackable sleep pods supported by new toilets, lockers, and a linen room. Bespoke fire protection details were integrated in collaboration with Fire and Structural Engineers, while new windows were introduced to maximise daylight and ventilation, creating a healthier, more energy-efficient environment.

Overall, the design takes a people-centred approach that prioritises staff wellbeing, productivity, and collaboration while ensuring resilience, sustainability, and long-term flexibility for the Trust.
